UPDATE #1: HUBS' HEALTH:
After I lovingly broadcasted to the world that Hubs was fully engaged in a "puke fest" on Thursday night I thought the worst was over. What followed was puking, puking, and more puking. Finally, four hours after the puking commenced, we took Hubs to the E.R. He couldn't even stop throwing up long enough for the nice lady to put an I.V. in him. Finally he had some anti nausea pumping through his veins, some anti cramp crap pumping through his veins, and lots of fluids getting put back in. The boy was totally dehydrated. Four hours and one middle of the night pharmacy visit after THAT we were back home. It was 4:30 am. I tell you this much, I don't love 4:30 am like I used to. In my college days I lived for the 4 and 5 am hour. That was when I really knew it had been a good night if we were still out that late. The later the better for me. Now I see the 4:00 am hour and I want to puke.
Hubs didn't leave the house all Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. Not even once. It has been a long weekend of doing nothing. But sometimes that's okay. He did eat a chicken taco tonight (first real food in three days!) and is even playing with the dog a little bit. He's on the mend!
P.S. He lost 7 pounds. IN THREE DAYS! Talk about a miracle diet!
UPDATE #2: GIVEAWAY WINNER:
The winner of the massive January group giveaway is Gayle Talabay. Gayle, sweet cheeks, you are about to get HOOKED UP. And I am so incredibly jealous. Be watching for an email.
UPDATE #3: BOOK CLUB
The 2013 Book Club Selection is finalized!!! DRUMROLL......
February: Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn
March: The Fault in our Stars by John Green
April: The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald
May: Silver Linings Playbook by Matthew Quick
June: Seriously... I'm Kidding by Ellen Degeneres
July: The Help by Kathryn Stockett
August: Life of Pi by Yann Martel
September: Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls
October: Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close by Jonathan Safran Foer
November: A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini
December: We Need to Talk about Kevin by Lionel Shriver
Our first read will be Gone Girl because that is the book that received the most votes. Besides that, I just kind of placed the books in a month that seemed appropriate. The Great Gatsby is in April because the movie is coming out in May and I figured we should all have it read before then. The Help and Seriously...I'm Kidding are in June and July because they seemed like great beach reads. (Ah, the beach! Does such a thing truly still exist?!?) A Thousand Spendid Suns and We Need to Talk about Kevin are both heavier reads and for that reason felt more appropriate in the fall/winter.
I tried to get a good balance of heavy and light books and a good balance of different topics, genres, time periods, writing styles, etc. We've got a little bit of everything in this book list and I am so excited! One book that received a lot of votes that didn't make it to the reading list was The Secret Life of Bees. I found the book to be a little too similar to The Help in theme and since The Help got more votes and is a way better book, I figured we could just do The Help. And I thought The Secret Life of Bees was totally boring.
I seriously am so excited about this. Almost 200 women voted for the book club- can you even imagine a book club with 200 people?!? EEE, GATS!
So that we all kind of know what to expect with the book club, we will "meet" to discuss book club the last Wednesday of every month. That will put our first book club discussion on Gone Girl on February 27. Buy the book, check it out from your library, steal it, do whatever you have to to get a copy! Then spend a few hours hidden in a corner where no one can bother you and enjoy the simple pleasure of reading. And then come prepared to talk talk talk about the book.
WOOT. WOOT.
P.S. If you plan to participate in Bon's Book Club, I would love it if you grabbed a button and displayed it on your sidebar. Of course, you don't have to. Just if you want. You know. Cuz reading is hip.

So Seriously Funny Story.. I was looking over my blogger to read list and I said to myself. I wonder if Bonnie has updated for today, and i refreshed the screen and there the blog was!
ReplyDeleteI love reading your blog and I've been reading it for awhile and I think you are awesome! :D
Oh your poor husband! I hope he gets better soon!
ReplyDeleteI'm very much looking forward to the book club!
and oh. i forgot to say, i'm glad that your hubby is on the mend! :D
ReplyDeleteI am SO BAD at "stickin to it" ... but I AM GOING TO TRY!!!! Fo realz!
ReplyDeleteWhat was wrong with hubs? Was it just a virus? Bless his heart. He looks absolutely miserable in that photo! :(
My husband is quite susceptible to food poisoning for some reason. The last time he had it in Afghanistan he lost 15 pounds in 2 weeks. Miraculous, indeed.
ReplyDeleteI feel so sorry for your husband.
ReplyDeleteI had the stomach flu over Christmas and it was horrible. But that IV really helped.
Hope he's back to normal soon.
Wahoo for the book club! Consider the button already posted on my blog. I'm so looking forward to this :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Bonnie!
Seven of the ten people in my immediate family had the same virus last week. It was awful. Hope he's feeling better and you avoid it!
ReplyDeleteBon I'm so disappointed that you don't like The Secret Life of Bees. It's one of my favorite books! (Although I didn't vote for it...I tried to vote for things I haven't read yet). When I first read it I was surprised that I loved it - Sue Monk Kidd usually bores me to tears (The Mermaid Chair? I'd rather watch paint dry.) To each her own, I guess, but The Secret Life of Bees is still at the top of my list :)
ReplyDeleteHope he gets too feeling 100% soon!
ReplyDeleteAnd you have done amazing books on your list... I may just have to participate!

Poor hubs! I'm glad he's feeling better! Soooo excited for the book club. There is a 200 person wait for Gone Girl at the library to I may be forced to buy it!
ReplyDeleteThat's good to hear that he is recovering. He looked so weak in the photo. Indeed, miracle diet but I think we don't want this kind of diet. Thanks for visiting Bonbon and for leaving a comment.
ReplyDeleteSo excited for this book club! As a college student it is so hard to find time to read, and I made it my goal to read one book in English & one in spanish (I have a minor) a month & think this will help me keep up with the English one!

Yay! So excited for book club! And I'm glad some of my top choices made the list. Seems like a great variety of books were chosen!
ReplyDeleteYay book club! But serious question, did I miss something with eee gats? I always thought it was eee gads! I remember you mentioning in another post that you wanted to start working it into your vocab more but I didn't know why. Just want to make sure I'm upon my words!
ReplyDeleteHurray!! I can't wait for this book club to start!
ReplyDeleteGlad husband is alright! How scary! That book list looks great! Not sure if I'll end up participating or not, if I find the time to read, great, or if I use my time wisely, which is probably the more likely issue lol.
ReplyDeleteSQUEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm so excited!
ReplyDeleteSo glad the hubs is on the mend... and love your book club pics... I read about half and they were all great... now I need to read the other half... :)
ReplyDeletethrowing up is officially the worst. or the best - when it comes to magical diets.
ReplyDeleteps i'm totally going to try my darndest to read all the books and be in the book club. i'm excited :)
So are you in trouble for taking that pic of your hubs at the ER? Cause I think mine would kill me if I posted something like that, ha! Seriously, though, I'm glad he's feeling better and I'm going to really consider your book club :)
ReplyDeleteOh dear, what a weekend. What an awful weekend! Hope all is well now. Thank you for visiting. Enjoying your blog too! Meryl

I love the book club idea, I am an avid reader and the choiceo books is excellent. However, I don't think I will be participating as I won't be able to wait long enough for each month to come! But I will really look forward to hearing other people's thoughts o some of my favourite books and a few of the books that I am hoping to read in the next couple of weeks! Again, such a great idea and I hop your husband is fine and your doing well :)Beth xxx
