Emotional basketcase + a big honking giveaway

I've been all sorts of weird emotional lately.  I mean, I'm a chick, so I'm kinda used to going crazy for no apparent reason.  But these past few days have been especially nuts, even for an emotional wreck like me.

FOR EXAMPLE:  Saturday we played volleyball with a bunch of Greg's old high school friends.  I pretty much suck at volleyball and yet somehow I am obsessed with it.  I could probably play for eight straight hours and still not want to stop.  Most people were done playing in a couple of hours, and so, naturally, I threw a fit.  Only two hours of volleyball?!?  We must play for at least four!!  I stamped my foot, tried to force people to keep playing with me, and then burst into tears as Greg and I headed to the car.  You know, nothing unreasonable at all.

Then yesterday I forced Greg and all his family to play Risk with me. It's my favorite board game in the world, but I can only get people to play it with me about once a year. Greg's brother attacked my armies on the first move, and I thought I would burst into tears. I was pretty much biting my lip trying not to cry.  Yep, emotions are totally out of wack.

On top of that, I've been missing my sister in Germany up the ying yang.  Probably because my mom's visiting her right now, and I have a total case of  FOMO.  You know, fear of missing out.  I'm sure they're catching up and rocking that brand new little baby and just having a great time without me.

You're probably thinking I'm just PMSing or maybe even pregnant?  I'm neither of those two.  I took a pregnancy test today just in case because I've been acting so straight up weird.  No bun in the oven for this girl.  I was shocked when the test said negative just because I thought there could be no other explanation for my emotional outbursts.

I'm telling you all this for no other reason other than that it feels good to tell it to someone.  I would love it if you could all tell me that you've also been crying lately because you can't play volleyball  and there's nothing at all weird about that.  All very rational indeed.  Mmmmkay?  Thanks.

In other news, I've got nine hotties dying to give away a bunch of sweet stuff to you.  Enter the giveaway below for gift cards galore- Amazon, Starbucks, Sephora, Barnes and Noble, Target, you name it.  You won't have to spend any of your own money for weeks with these gift cards.

  1. I cry when I can't play volleyball too! Both my husband and I were on Varsity in high school. Two months ago, we were invited to be part of a tournament of competitive volleyball, but my knee injury was still pretty bad and I wasn't in the shape to be diving on it... I did cry. But, I've been pretty emotional too...mainly on the FOMO side as well, but with big things...we should have a pity party and get some icecream or something! =)

  3. Don't worry, I cry about the most random things. And I'm definitely not pregnant. And I doubt I'm on constant 24/7 PMS...

  4. Hey! Hope you start feeling better. I totally get it- I'm pregnant and an emotional wreck! I always feel better after crying, though! :) hang in there!!!

    1. Yes but at least you have an excuse! Half of me was hoping I was pregnant just so I could justify my total craziness!

  7. While on vacation, I caused a scene by storming off from everyone because I thought my husband was flirting with the bartender (not true at all). I then proceeded to cry over it for about two hours straight. THOSE emotions were definitely a result of alcohol, but the sad thing is, I have other breakdowns that have not been induced by some illicit substance. I'll cry over a sappy commercial! Geeze Louise!

    1. This story is amazing! And at least you can blame it on the alcohol- I can't think of one reason why I'm acting so crazy. And I hear you on the sappy commercials too!

  8. This happens to me on a regular basis -- pregnant or not :) So, chalk it up to being a girl I suppose. Also, thanks for a fun giveaway!

  10. Pregnant was my first thought. I think we all have "cry all the time" moments. It's okay!

  12. I cried last week for the following reasons:
The toliet wasn't as clean as I wanted it to be.
My husband woke me up from a nap because he was bored. (I think at least)
I was out of frozen cherries to put in my wine.
It was too hot to turn on the oven and make brownies.

Nope, not pregnant, not PMSing. I might be coming down with something, but who knows. I'm generally pretty even other than PMS.

    I hope you feel better!

    1. This comment makes my day. Especially the husband woke you up from a nap because he was bored. Totally justifies the crying! I feel like I'm pretty even with my emotions too, so I can't figure out what is going on!

  14. A few things:

    1. One time I got in the worst mood because my roommate got married and took her canned artichoke with her to her new apartment without telling me. Seriously, I was so irrationally upset. It was embarrassing.
    2. One time I saw you at the mall. I know that's kind of creepy, but well, yeah, it's just creepy. Sorry.

    1. LOL at number two! You should have said hi! I do creepster things like that ALL the time!

Canned artichokes? Now you've got me intrigued!

  15. I love this post. You know what? I feel the same way lately. I think it's just midsummer blues. Post vacation. You know, not quite time to jump into school again, but post vacation? And volleyball and Risk are two very legitimate reasons to get emotional, in my opinion. :)

    1. That could totally be it! It usually doesn't me until the first week of August though... maybe this year it's just coming early. Does this mean it's time to go back to work :(

  16. I am super emotional alllll the time, especially recently. Just one word from someone which I misinterpret or take the wrong way and I'm fighting back the tears. You're not the only one!

Also, I'm with you on the overly emotional thing. That's been me all week too, just bursting out crying at the drop of a hat. Boyfriend is mystified, the poor kid, but I don't know how to stop!!

  20. Maybe you just need more sleep?

On a related note, my mom made me pee on a stick because I've been gaining weight like crazy, having nausea after breakfast every day, and been exhausted. Nope, I'm not preggers either (much to my mom's chagrin). Our hormones are weird....who knows why?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. The sleep thing was another reason I thought I was preggers because I've been sleeping 10-11 hours a day. I usually go on 6 so I have no idea why I am almost doubling my sleep time... Maybe too much sleep?

And LOVE that your mom forced you to take a pregnancy test. LOL!

  23. I've only heard of the concept of FOMO in one other place until now (The Oprah magazine), and I've been kinda obsessed ever since with it. You an O reader?

    1. I'm no an O reader. I actually saw a question about it on Jeopardy and then ever since then I have found it the perfect thing to explain my condition. I didn't know it was a real credible thing... tell me more!

  26. Ok, I am so glad to have read this! I am going through the exact same thing these past few days and I have no reason for it! I am not even an emotional wreck most of the time, but stupid things are making me feel like everyone is out to get me and that the universe hates me. Ridiculous! It's like being a teenager all over again. Seriously, I just burst out crying last night and my fiance was totally freaked out and didn't even know how to deal with it. Anyway, glad to know I'm not the only one right now! Haha!

    1. Totally get you on the everyone is out to get me thing. That's exactly how I have been feeling. Like why's everybody taking out their problems on me? Hopefully your fiance will get used to it. I know the first few times I freaked out for no reason Greg was totally floored. Now he just gives me ice cream and turns on the Kardashians for me.

  27. Hahaha, I'm so glad that you took a pregnancy test just in case ;) But isn't it sad that when our emotions or our bodies are doing something weird and funky, that's the first thing we think of?

  33. When I was dating my husband we were playing phase 10 with a bunch of my family and my brother and cousin started teasing me. This is my life, no big deal, but I got up from the table a little upset and went to the bathroom to pee. My aunt assumed I left because I was sad and when she asked me, "What's wrong?" I freaking broke down sobbing. Everyone felt so bad for me, but I felt like an idiot. I have no idea why that happened.

  34. I cried for three hours straight on Saturday over a bad haircut. I was inconsolable. I'm going to get it fixed today... hopefully. Could just end in another fit of crying.

And the crying over Risk thing totally makes sense to me. When it comes to games/competition I get emotional about weird things like that ALL THE TIME.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Sometimes it happens to me too! I just want to cry at the drop of a hat and I can't figure out why.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Oh gosh girl, I get the same way!

    ReplyDelete
  37. I was ready to ask if you were pregnant! Sometimes, I will cry over the silliest things. I am out of milk, tears. I have to go to work, tears. My boyfriend doesn't want to watch the movie I picked out, tears. I think it happens to all of us!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Saying hi! I would really like this since, ya know, I am going to be a newlywed soon and we will have no money ha

  39. I laughed out loud when I read this:) I have totally been there before. Acting crazy for no apparent reason. The worst part is when you realize how irrational you're acting in the moment, but can do nothing to change it. So you just go on crying and blubbering:) Just blame it on being a girl and treat yourself to some fro yo:)

  47. Not sure if you still look at this but I have been a basket case all week!!!! Its driving me nuts! I'm going off on the husband. Even wrote him a letter of all the things I can't take anymore. Got in a huge fight with him and yelled at him in front of our son which I never ever do. When he told me sarcastically that I was being a great mom I ran outside and sobbed. I cried today watching my baby boy 14 months play the guitar so sweetly. He was so happy by my response I had never seen him look so proud. I keep having tears going down my face while I'm chuckling reading these posts. My period ended a week ago so I should be great but I'm not. I wonder if I might be 4 weeks pregnant as the smell of an avocado smelled disgusting to me today and I love avocados. Being a woman is exhausting. Part of me is glad I wrote that letter: got it all off my chest. The other part is screaming your acting like basket case and just like your own mother!!!!! Awwwww!!!!!"
