The Life of Bon: Why I am the worst blogger ever

Why I am the worst blogger ever

I might as well come clean, folks.

I am the worst blogger.

Seriously the worst.

Here I am staring at my freaking blank screen at 9:14 pm and I don't have one idea of what I am going to say to you tonight.  All of Kimmie's peeps at Sugar and Dots are going to come over and say hi, and here I am with nothing in the world to say.

It really sucks being such a crappy blogge---

Now wait a second.  I do believe an idea was just born.  Yes.  Yes it was.

I hereby present to you...

WHY I AM THE WORST BLOGGER EVER
BY THE LIFE OF BON
AKA BON BON

WARNING:  This picture has nothing to do with the post.
I just like it because it's the middle of summer, I'm riding a tandem bicycle with my bestie, and Santa Clause tried to hop on the back.
And we're laughing our heads off.
Who could resist sharing?!?

Reason #1:  I don't like blogging about weekends.  My weekends are great and everything, don't get me wrong.  I just don't know that they are necessarily post worthy.  So most of the time I don't mention them at all unless Hubs was puking his guts out or something.  When I do try to post about a normal weekend I bore myself with the post.  Weekends are great to live.  Not so great to read about.

Reason #2:  Sometimes I am embarrassed to be a blogger.  I even kind of hate the term "blogger."  It feels like I don't belong in it.  You know when you just start dating a guy and you feel weird every time he calls you his girlfriend?  It's like that.  Also, pretty much everybody I know gives me a hard time about being a so called "blogger."  Don't get me wrong- it's all in good fun- but it's also somewhat mortifying.  "Hey, guys, Bon just got out her camera!  This is going on the blog!"  "Oh hey Bonnie.  Heard you got yourself your very own blog!"  and of course, my students, "Teacher are you going to tell this story on your blog?!?"  I always just kind of duck by head and pretend like I don't know what they are talking about.  I practically disown my blog on the daily.  Shouldn't a good blogger be loud and proud about her space on the interwebs?!?

Reason #3:  I always forget to take pictures.  Either that, or I feel super lame pulling my camera out.  For example, Saturday night we hung out with all of Hubs' friends.  It was real fun!  They were all dudes!  Six of them, in fact! I was the only girl!  We ate at a gross buffet and then wasted money in a way I would rather not discuss.  Just me and the boys!  I wanted to take a picture of it, but it just felt weird, "Hey you six mid twenty year old men!  Smile for the camera so I can put this on my blog!"  It's not just with six dudes, I always feel real self conscious pulling out the cam cam.  When I do, I snap a pic real fast and then hide my camera back away.  Which is way my pics always turn out like crap.
3a.  I don't have a DSLR camera.
3b.  I have no idea how to use a DSLR even if I had one
3c.  I never edit my pictures because oh gosh, it's just all so exhausting.

Reason #4:  I really really hate DIY.  You should see me try to do any kind of craft.  Thirty minutes into it I've got yarn tangled up, glitter spilled all over the floor, and fingers that are hot glued together.  I invariably give up half way through the project, throw the cardboard with a hot mess of glue and buttons on it across the room, and then demand someone else finish it for me.  It ain't pretty.

Reason #5:  I don't blog on schedule.  Ever.  I can count on one hand the number of times I have had a post ready to go a day or more in advance.  Did I say one hand?  I meant one finger.  Most of the time I open up my computer and stare at the blank screen and wonder, "now what should I write about today?" just like I did today.  If I were a good blogger I would have this all figured out and planned and scheduled.  Last week I talked to a blogging buddy of mine and she told me she writes all her posts for the week on Saturday.  ON SATURDAY!  Can you imagine the kind of determination and organization that that woman must have?  I'm never going to get there, I'll tell you now!

Reason #6:  I have no idea how to do any kind of blog design.  It's all I can do to copy and paste an html and I tell you what, that took me a whole year to catch on to.  I have only one time made my own button and that was an all out disaster.  I've got people who do that crap for me because I just can't figure it out on my own.  And my, don't I sound official saying "I've got people?!?"

Reason #7:  Pretty sure I am the antithesis of link-up queen.  I always forget how to link up, I never find the link ups on time, I'm never quite writing on the right topic.  Then there's my own link ups I've tried to host.  Don't even get me going there.  I never put the link up gadget up right.  What few people are nice enough to link up never even hear a peep from me because I'm so overwhelmed with the whole stinkin thing I never get to the point of actually commenting on the posts they linked up.  It's a shame I tell you, a crying shame!

I could go on but Reason #8 I am a bad blogger is I blog too late at night and then I am exhausted and just want to go to bed and the post gets the raw end of the deal.

So sorry post.

Hey!  It just occurred to me that a lot of you probably think you are bad bloggers too.  Well, hello, that is what the comment section is for!  Tell me what makes you a bad blogger and we will all wallow in our blog awfulness together.  Now that sounds like a party!

P.S.  If you are here for the first time, A. I am so glad you are here! B. Check out my Best of Bon page if you want to read more and C. don't forget to enter yesterday's massive giveaway.  Lots of loot up for grabs!

  2. I'm a horrible blogger too! I've gone months without writing a post... it's like I just disappear, and then I reappear, and I feel like no one reads after that. I'm working on my blogging consistency. I'd love to sit and write out a weeks worth of posts at one time, but it would take me all day long... writing one post usually takes me a while... and if there are pictures involved, it could take hours.

  3. I think I'm a bad blogger because I do ALL the link-ups....no original content here!!

  4. I too am a bad blogger. I never do any of the things a real blogger should do and when I should be blogging I'm actually spending the time making my blog look halfway decent for the 15 readers that I have. But oh well I figure. I might get around to working out an actual schedule for blogging in between building tents with my 3 year old and studying for my degree. I say that so long as you continue blogging for the sheer joy of it than there is nothing wrong with doing things the way you do them.

    Cheers!

  5. I do every single one of those things. I didn't even know there was a schedule button until just barely. I am constantly trying to figure out what all the blogging lingo means. All my pictures on my blog are taken with my phone. I'm in my twenties. I don't have money for a $2000 camera. Haha!

  6. I love this post!! You are so funny. I am the same exact way with a camera, I always feel so lame taking it out for pictures. Especially of food, I am sure people always wonder why I take pictures of every meal. but since that was awkward enough I never get pictures of people because I hide the camera before that ever happens.

  7. I'm a bad blogger because I know nothingnothingnothing about html or design. I couldn't fix a glitch if my life depended on it. I disappoint myself.

    ReplyDelete
  8. I know what you mean about scheduling posts--every time I say I'm going to do something once a week, I last for about a month and then give up. Oh, well. I don't even enjoy the scheduled posts anyway, so why do them?

    ReplyDelete
  9. haha this post couldn't be more true! I am guilty of all of the above things you mentioned... especially blog design and taking pictures. I always feel silly taking lots of pictures! So glad I'm not alone. Also, I love your blog so just keep doing what you're doing :)

    ReplyDelete
  10. you say you're a bad blogger but you're obviously amazingly successful so... you're not that bad ;)

but me, on the other hand, do all those things and then some that make me a bad blogger and i am definitely not successful. so you are at least doing something right!

  11. Lol...love your arguments.

That makes many fall into that category.

  12. I'm not a great blogger either. I cannot design, Diedre just hooked me up in a BIG way. Also I cannot post consistently to save my life. It's my goal to post regularly...one day a week. We'll see how this goes. Anyway, I still love you Bon, I'll keep coming back!

  13. I'm such a bad blogger I host a FB group where other bad bloggers commiserate about being bad bloggers. What's that about misery & her penchant for company? At least I'm a supportive blogger right?? In fact, I'm going to share your blog in there now so everyone can see what a bad blogger you are! You can thank me later (I prefer Starbucks g/c please & thank you). ~ Dee

  14. Amen on blogger codes, link ups, blogging about weekends, and diy. I'm right there with you! Also, i don't have design people, Facebook, or Instagram. I am just barely catching on to Twitter. Basically i have zero vehicles to promote my blog...those are my reasons :)

    ReplyDelete
  15. I totally agree with you on a lot of these things. I suck with HTML. I don't do anything super cool to write about my life + I suck really bad at crafting. Mostly I attempt and share my failures with my readers.

    ReplyDelete
  16. It's so funny you (and all these other people!) think you're a bad blogger! What makes a good blogger? If you're choosing to share your life via blog then heck, you get to choose how it goes about being shared. Everyone has something worth sharing. Plus, 2,531 people seem to think you're darn interesting! Feel free to send them all my way if you think you're no good at this ;)

  17. I am a bad blogger because first off, I have a DSLR but since I'm usually too embarrassed to bust it out, I take most pics with my phone. Also, it takes me hours upon hours to make something simple like a button and then it doesn't even look that great. AND it usually takes me days to respond to comments esp. if work gets busy. So, yep. Terrible blogger...Lol :-)

  18. That photo is hilarious! I'm pretty bad with blog designs too - gotta love templates! Love this post.

  21. How funny! I've been feeling the exact same way. I'm a bad blogger because nothing I own is chevron, I too am a terrible DIY-er, I never take pictures of myself because my outfits are lame and I have new mom hair, and I literally have googled "what is HTML". Also, my husband is my only follower and that's only because I made him haha! I feel ya, Bon! But you're blog is great so keep going!

  22. You do make me chuckle!
    I'm a bad blogger because...
1# Sometimes I'm so keen to post something I don't proof read correctly and post nonsense..I told people to making pancakes in a 'flying pan'..erm woops!
2# My photos are horrible, grainy, silly and I'm super uncomfortable asking people to photograph me.
3# I use whatever random photo I can find and try to fit it in the post!
4# I think I'm really funny and useful but I'm not entirely sure anyone else is erm..laughing!
5# I have very few followers...I must be boring!

  23. Haha you pretty much covered all the reasons i am a bad blogger as well. So good to know its not just me!

    ReplyDelete
  24. I am also a terrible blogger!
I barely ever post, barely take pictures (or edit them when I do), typically I'm too tired to say anything witty or creative...the list goes on and on! :)
I think you're an awesome blogger, though!

  25. Ok so...I just glanced at your home page..It's fab! IT has buttons and sponsors and colors and oh so wonderful stuff on it..I hate link ups and 5 dolla starbucks giveaways. I blog from my heart, which transcends down my arms into my fast and furious fingers and Wala! it is what it is. I dont instragram or facebook so I'm thrilled to know everyone else who commented agrees and gets us Bad bloggers! I read your stuff everyday (or when u feel like posting) and I'm good with all that. Never stop writing, just let it flow however you get there, cos...I LOVE your blog...thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  26. People think I'm a food blogger - which is partially true, but not entirely. I'm the worst food blogger there is, because I don't have a good camera and worse, I don't do anything at all to the pictures I do end up posting. Who's got hours to spend on photoshop making sure every photo I take is perfect? Not me.

For most of the other reasons you list, I too am a bad blogger.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I must be a bad blogger too hahaha. Though I do write my posts in advance - mostly because I write when I have ideas, and I can't post them all on the same day, so I schedule them ahead!

    ReplyDelete
  28. I agree with #3 and #4. Also, I wait to write my blog posts because something cool might happen during the day after I post and then I feel silly doing an "Oh, yea" post.

  30. I wrote a long comment (probably too long) and tried to post, but my computer apparently went weird on me, and it didn't post. Maybe it was a sign to condense. I don't even have a blog, so I am the worst at blogging. I think you are the best. I appreciate that you don't have dozens of posts on the back burner just waiting to be posted. You're real, and you present the truth about yourself (as far as I can tell having never met you ;)), not some sugar coated version of it. I look forward to your posts more than almost any other blog I follow!

I am a bad blogger because I'm not a cute little newlywed Mormon or Mormon mommy with kids, and the majority of bloggers fit this category. It's like the Mafia that I'm not a part of :)

I am so glad you shared your blogging issues! Everything I read by other bloggers makes me think they are way better bloggers than I am. They have fancy cameras and fancy designs and I have niether at this point. You are not a horrible blogger, I love your blog and I don't care if you schedule your posts. My google reader tells me when you have posted and that's good enough for me.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Honestly, I feel like it's kinda fake when someone writes all their blog posts on one day. I feel like it's not so much from the heart but more of a job they have. I like reading blogs because you can learn so much from one another. But I like it even more when it's not all so planned out.

  35. I am such a bad blogger because my mother-in-law is a bitch and makes it only convenient for her to watch our son even though we're paying her way more than she's worth. For this, I can barely get anything done because I have to watch my son all day (which isn't a problem, just an inconvenience to me) and I am never organized because he likes to tear shit apart.

But you know what, that is ABOUT to change because I told her off (she apparently wants the money while not watching him and only goo-goo eyeing the so-called "man" who would rather focus his attention on his house than her while she is there with my son). Zak's just going to get day-care and there is nothing she can say for not being paid for this month even though she "watched him" 5 days so far this month.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Oh gosh, I'm a terrible blogger as well. I actually don't even consider myself a blogger because it's so bad. I'm too chicken to take pictures sometimes, I can't craft to save my life, I only write when I feel like it, and I have no idea how to make a button either. I just don't have one. But I think all these things that make us "bad bloggers" simply mean we only do it because we love it.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I think I'm the worst blogger every, maybe a bipolar blogger, because I'll post regularly for a few weeks, even have some ready days in advance, only to then go 2 or 3 weeks without anything to say...

  38. Yes! I am so bad about scheduled posts and link ups and crap. My posts are just all over the place. And I don't have a fancy camera either. I sure wish I did.. but nope.. I don't even have a freaking laptop. Sad, right?

    ReplyDelete
  39. I'm a mediocre blogger. I'm not a bad blogger (and of course, dear Bon, neither are you!) I don't even know what link-ups are! I NEVER write anything ahead of time, and I my blog isn't monetized. But the good news is that I've been blogging for 4 1/2 years, roughly 3 times a week, and I'm still doing it! So I think that's pretty good... for me. I'm one to leave unfinished projects. My blog isn't about food or fashion or motherhood (my kids are all grown), in fact I rarely blog about my kids OR grandkids. They don't live nearby, so I don't blog about them much. Mostly my blog is about my creative projects, and I have a lot of them. I'm never embarrassed to pull out my DSLR camera, because, y'know, that's just what I do. I take pretty good pictures and create nice digital designs, and sometimes I'm funny. But I think a good blogger is one who has a zillion followers, makes a little money or some schwag, and makes you want to visit their blog every day to see the new fun. Which yours is, Bon. Mine, alas, is just mediocre!

  40. I hate DIY too, it's ok. You don't have to be a DIY'er to be a blogger!!

    ReplyDelete
  41. I, too, don't have a DSLR and have no interest in taking the time to figure out how to do it. I do envy all the nice-looking pictures on the other blogs whose owners have DSLR-quality content. I also hate DIY projects.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Then I'm a horrible blogger too! I'm always so embarrassed, and I feel self conscious about pulling out my camera, and while I'll link up with other people sometimes I know if I were to try one on my own I would fail, I can't really do design, I'll on occasion write on a schedule but usually don't.... so yeah. I'm a terrible blogger too.

    ReplyDelete
  43. 1. No DSLR camera. Considering one, but I know I'd be too lazy to use it. So that's out. I do take a lot of photos. Bad ones.

    2. I write what I want when I want, and I don't really care if anyone reads it.

    3. When people mention something about this is going on your blog isn't it or the like, I freeze like a deer in headlights. I don't want to commit.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I feel like you stole the words out of my mouth, ESPECIALLY regarding numbers 3 and 5. I am baffled, absolutely BAFFLED, by bloggers that are able to plan posts a week in advance. If I have something planned ONE day in advance, I consider that a major victory!

    ReplyDelete
  45. Oh I agree with you about the pictures! We have a really nice camera but I'm afraid to carry it lest I break it. Plus its heavy!! My pictures are all snapped my phone and I'm pretty sure all my friends secretly hate me for making them pose for me and them plastering up the pic, whether it is good or not!

    ReplyDelete
  46. okay if you are a bad blogger and yet you have over 2000 followers then maybe there is hope for me yet.

im so with you on just about everything except i do own a dslr and dont know how to use it. i cant diy, craft, cook, and even though i like to organize i dont have the $ to make everything perfect and matchy and picture worthy.

any picture comes off my phone because its easy to upload through google + and i go on long hiatuses where i dont post anything because im too tired chasing 2 kids.

maybe you should host a bad blogger linkup and we can all find all the other bad bloggers and be best bad blogger friends

  47. I love this!!
I am so embarrassed to be a blogger. My mother in law found my blog and now I'm even more self-conscious! Every time I see her I just know she's going to ask me a question about what I wrote. Plus, she always announces to random people she knows that I have a blog, making me want to hide.

I also never take pictures. I feel awkward pulling my camera out when we are with people doing things. I also feel weird taking pictures alone. It's a no win situation.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Agreed to everything! ... My friend told me I need to find my niche... but I don't have one... oh well.. I will go about what I do! I have a DSLR right now but I need to learn a lot still :)

    ReplyDelete
  49. I think we all have moments when we have no idea what to write yes even me although I don't have that happen very often and when I do I can go to my unposted blog folder and find something........what I do get annoyed about with blogging is when someone looks at me like they think I am crazy for blogging.....but blogging is something you either get or you don't.......

    ReplyDelete
  50. and yet people read anyway! that is why you are AWESOME! i hate all the "blogging rules". woof. you say it (or type it rather), and we read it. it's how blogging should be. do what you want, if people read, great. if they don't, great. the end. good for you for being a terrible blogger! :)

    ReplyDelete
  51. I'm right there with ya. I try and stay on top and pre-schedule posts, but I never can. I have lots of random posts, because I don't really have a method to the madness that is my blogging.

So you're definitely not the worse blogger ever, because I think I may have you beat!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  52. I NEVER have my camera when I need it. Such a bad mistake on my part.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Ugh I agree with all of the above haha. I so don't fit into the typical "blogger" category. Only thing I would add is that my biggest fan is my mom haha.

P.S. at the risk of sounding like a total stalker - I saw your insta post about resigning. I know that was hard but yay for new, exciting things!! :)

I am also the worst blogger (and totally agree with you about never taking pictures. i HAVE a DSLR, but hate whipping it out because people will make fun of me or think i'm a tourist).

i am the worst blogger because marvelous, groundbreaking ideas for posts come to me while i am about to fall asleep or while i am driving to work and i don't write them down. then they are lost in the abyss forever.

    ReplyDelete
  55. i'm a horrid blogger because i NEVER post and then when i finally do i write something really short (that only i think is funny) and throw up some pictures from my phone, and call that good.
nor do i have a dslr camera.
nor do i shop and cute stores or have perfect hair all the time.
nor do i wear cute clothes. today i spent more than half the day in my gym clothes because i didn't want to change between workouts.
so maybe i'm just lazy. yeah, i'm just lazy.
    but i love your blog!
